In 2018, I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s Burkitts Lymphoma. As a result I went through months of inpatient chemotherapy and ultimately had a stem cell transplant. The truth is it’s a miracle I made it. Once life is so close to an end you realize how fast it all goes by.
One of the things I always wanted to do was skydive but never did. Well, this past summer I decided it was now or never. Here’s the thing with tandem skydiving, you are 100% trusting the person who is jumping with you. My instructor Jimmy has had thousands of jumps, and I did trust him. Once up in the air at some point he states, “Denise put your feet out in front of you.” I obeyed, and he started hooking up to me. Next, it’s put your feet out of the plane, so I obey, and off we went.
What a beautiful experience being in the clouds.
Here’s the thing: I wish I could follow God’s voice with that same 100% trust, the way I followed Jimmy’s voice that day.
Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
Well, I’m still learning to trust God in that same way, but when I have those moments that I follow His voice and obey, it truly nourishes my soul.
